Since our Hotel was situated right at Braga street itself, we were spoilt for choice when it came to dining options. You could stay there for a week and still not have enough time to sample it all – unfortunately for us, we only had 3 days! So, after checking out our options, we finally decided to hit Braga Permai Resto on our second night in Bandung.
The restaurant applies a very western concept – they have a Maitre D waiting to sit people, menus displayed outside the restaurant, fairy lights adorning the terrace, etc. The prices are quite high (judging by Indonesian standards), but we felt a tad reassured when we spotted locals also dining there (as a general rule we try to stay away from tourist-only restaurants!).
Once seated, we were presented with our menus and a complimentary bread basket. After a bit of deliberation, we decided to opt for the beef ravioli in cream sauce, the beef croquettes and the house special kwetiauw. The ravioli was, undoubtedly, the highlight of the meal. Perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection.
I loved the fact that the portions were so generous. In retrospect, we could have easily skipped the kwetiauw, as we ended up taking more than half of it back to our hotel as take-away! The food was delivered to us through very synchronized timing and it ensued that the items were piping hot. The croquettes were crispy on the outside, with a light and fluffy pastry layer underneath and the beef filling has just the right amount of spice.
The bill was close to 15 Dollars, which is a great deal by western standards. The restaurant had also hired a duet for the evening, and they serenaded us during dinner with live music, belting out some of the classics and also some recent tunes. The music and the fairy lights created a relaxing ambiance, and it was perfect to kill a couple of hours here.
I guess there’s a reason that they have managed to sustain themselves for so long – Braga Permai was a pleasure to dine at. If you are in Bandung and happen to be near Braga, don’t forget to stop by here for a relaxing dinner!
